Processing intens experiences
Eye Movement Desentisisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a treatment technique that aims to handle complaints arising after an unpleasant experience. Sometimes a traumatic event causes intrusions. For example, by flashbacks or nightmares. As a result, other problems arise, such as irritability, fatigue and easily startled.
EMDR is scientifically researched. The treatment is used effectively to problems that arise after a traumatic event, or low self-esteem and some phobias. Treatment is often short-term. Marije Feenstra is EMDR Europe Practitioner and member of the VEN.
Getting started with your thoughts
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a treatment that focuses on thoughts and behavior. This type of therapy is used for various complaints, such as depression and anxiety disorders.
In Cognitive Behavioral you will learn to look differently to problems. Together with your therapist you investigate the interaction between thoughts, feelings and behavior.
Overall cognitive behavioral is a short-term treatment.
For more information (and video's) about Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, how it works and for what type of complaints it is usable, you can look at the website of the Association for Behavioral- and cognitive therapies:
Marije Feenstra is a member of the VGCT and Cognitive Behavioral Therapist in training.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT stands for Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (Hayes, Wilson & Strosahl). This is a third generation behavioral therapy that helps you deal with the obstacles they encounter in a flexible way (Acceptance), so that people can continue to invest in the things that really matter to them (Commitment). ACT consists of six different processes / skills, often depicted in the ACT hexaflex:
Acceptance: Making room for unpleasant experiences.
Defusie: Distance yourself from your thoughts.
The Self: Be flexible with yourself(image).
Here and now: Attention to the Here and Now.
Values: Focus on what really matters to you.
Committed Trading: Investing in your values.
These ACT skills together ensure that someone becomes more psychologically flexible. The aim of ACT is therefore not very much to reduce complaints, but developing personal resilience. ACT uses a lot of metaphors and exercises; people develop the various ACT skills in an experiential way.
Works ACT?
ACT is recognized as evidence-based therapy for major depressive disorder, various anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, psychosis and chronic pain (APA, 2010). ACT has also been shown to be effective in increasing general well-being; there is therefore no need for psychopathology to benefit from this form of therapy.

Schema Therapy
Schema therapy is a nationally and internationally scientifically proven effective form of psychotherapy for people with personality problems or other long-term complaints, like relapsing depression. Schema Therapy helps you understand and change the origin of persistent patterns. During the treatment, the influence of experiences from your childhood on your thinking and acting is examined. You learn to recognize your patterns and to change them in such a way that you start to think differently, you will feel better and do things differently. You learn to feel what your needs are and you learn to deal with them in a healthier way. This will help you better direct your life and improve your relationships with others. You can get schema therapy in different forms: individual, in a group or a combination of both.
The animations below give a short introduction to schema therapy.

Living in the here and now
Mindfulness means 'paying full attention'. By practicing mindfulness you learn to bring your attention in the here and now. You are aware of your experience at this time and your senses.
This helps conscious living. You are as it were 'less on autopilot'. Mindfulness has added value in a variety of complaints, such as depression, stress and chronic pain.
At Feelgood Psychology we integrate mindfulness in treatments with Marije Feenstra. She followed her education as mindfulness trainer at the Center for Mindfulness in Amsterdam. On request, we have the opportunity to follow an individual mindfulness course. Would you rather follow a group training? It can with our partner Beyond Mindfulness.
Lifestyle coaching
Lifestyle coaching can help you make dietary changes, movement, relaxation, to sleep, meaning. It can be amazing to make these changes on your own, a professional can help with this. This can be integrated into a treatment process or as a separate process.
Mindful parenting
Mindful parenting (to raise) teaches you with techniques from mindfulness to deal with parenting stress in a more conscious way. In everyday life with children, whatever age they are, there are all kinds of challenges. Peak hours, big emotions or pitfalls from how you were brought up yourself. We can provide an individual mindful parenting training from 8 going through sessions with you or interweaving these techniques in your treatment.
Marije completed the mindful parenting teacher training at Susan Bögels.
Working practical together
Private coaching and therapy can be aimed at preventing psychological symptoms, here we focus on increasing your physical and mental resilience to ensure that you stay healthy and we can address any incipient complaints as early as possible. Private coaching could also be focused on complaints that are not reimbursed by your health insurance (this can include: stress, sexual problems, study-problems). In the case of private coaching and therapy, there are no data provided to the insurance and no referral from the GP is needed.
healthcare in your own space and environment
E-health (email consultations) can be an excellent way to integrate the work on your health and development in your busy life. This may also be an option if you live farther away from Amsterdam or because digital appointments fit you more for another reason .
The implementation of e-health is possible in different ways; therapy/ coaching sessions entirely based on e-health, Another possibility is to alternate face-to-face meetings with e-health.
Coming to insights while walking
Coaching while we take a walk and discussing your life can be a nice combination between talking about your health and also work directly on it. You literally move and so provide direct care of yourself. Walking literally puts you in motion and being outside provides a fresh look at things. You make endorphin and serotonin by moving. The Vondelpark may be the location for walking coaching, but a different location is possible ofcourse.
